Paul Harker
Screenwriter & Producer
Winner of thirteen international screenwriting competitions on five different feature scripts. A visiting lecturer in screenwriting at the University of Leeds, screenwriting tutor at the London Horror Society and volunteering as a script mentor at the Oakwood Film Academy, Leeds.
Driven by a life-long love of story, my screenwriting channels the atmosphere of Ken Loach and Shane Meadows, spliced and diced with Tarantino, Kubrick and 70s Spielberg. My story heart lives in the 70s and early 80s. The Godfather and Kes. Star Wars and Raining Stones. Jaws and Alien. The Shining and This is England. Stranger Things and Time Bandits. A mash up of glittering Hollywood and English kitchen sink realism, reimagined for contemporary consumption.
I mainly write contained, low budget psychological horror and thriller scripts. My stories are laced with scuzzy socialism and explore and condemn the abundance of masculine toxicity that pervades our lives. It attempts to echo the intensity of The Silence of the Lambs, the greatest film ever made. My stories are muscular, action packed, thrilling. They are also savage, brutal, dark and absurd. Grotty and gross maybe, but they alway have heart and a redemptive conclusion for my underdog anti-heroes.
